Meet Jhesie Mungues: Community Media Intern

Published On: August 13, 2026 |

This summer, we were thrilled to welcome Jhesie Mungues as our Community Media Intern. Jhesie is double majoring in Media Production and Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship, and brought his interests in media and sports to his work with us.

During his time at BAVC Media and SF COMMONS, he helped build our new podcast studio, which we’ll be sharing more about soon.

Jhesie brought curiosity, creativity, and a great attitude to everything he worked on. He somehow made building a podcast studio look easy! We loved having him on the team and are looking forward to seeing what he does next at St. Mary’s and beyond!

-Andy Kawanami – Director of Community Media

Good luck, Jhesie, and thanks for all your hard work this summer!

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I’m a rising junior at Saint Mary’s College of California, double majoring in Media Production and Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. I enjoy hiking, traveling, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.

When did you first cross paths with BAVC Media and what about the organization’s mission and vision resonates with you?

I first learned about BAVC Media through my professor and advisor, Jason Jakaitis. He spoke highly of the organization and its impact, which led me to explore BAVC’s mission. I connected with their commitment to community storytelling, media access, and supporting underrepresented voices. It felt like a place where my interests and values fit naturally.

What were you most excited about in taking on your new role?

I was most excited to learn from the team, strengthen my production skills, and contribute to projects that highlight community stories. I was also looking forward to building meaningful relationships and being in a creative environment.

What advice would you give a young person who has a story to tell but doesn’t know where to start?

Start with what you have and create something small. Your phone, your voice, and your experiences are enough. The important part is taking the first step.

What are 3 things that are currently bringing you joy?

Three things that currently bring me joy are exploring and traveling, hiking, and watching my little brother play soccer.
