The Station Manager of Broadcast & Community Media Operations (Part-time) leads the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and strategic development of SF COMMONS production, broadcast, streaming, OTT, and post-production systems. This role combines technical leadership with community engagement, producer development, program oversight, and funder accountability to ensure high-quality media production and accessible participation in public media. The Manager supervises staff and community producers, oversees equipment and studio resources, implements operational workflows, tracks program metrics, and fosters an inclusive, community-driven storytelling environment. The Manager is expected to provide hands-on support across both technical and engagement areas when needed, ensuring continuity of services and mentorship to all team members

BAVC Media (Bay Area Video Coalition) has been a trusted community educator, collaborator, incubator, community builder, and resource for the media arts world since 1976.
BAVC Media serves as a community hub and resource for media makers in the Bay Area and across the country, reaching thousands of freelancers, filmmakers, jobseekers, activists, and artists every year. We provide access to media-making technology, hands-on training, workshops, mentorship, preservation services, broadcast opportunities, artist development support, and more.
Across BAVC Media’s programs, we advocate for those whose stories aren’t being told and provide the resources for anyone to create, share, and amplify their stories and those of their communities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Engagement
- Lead community engagement and producer development initiatives to build participation and expand access to media production
- Assist with the supervision and support of specialist-level staff, currently including two media specialists. Could increase depending on departmental needs for contractor and/or consultant support.
- Design and implement workshops, training programs, and special events to support producers and community participants. In collaboration with other departments.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners and stakeholders to strengthen community media programs and outreach
- Prioritise the cultivation of an inclusive and welcoming environment that amplifies diverse voices and public storytelling
Potential Weekend and Evenings support, depending on program needs
Broadcast, Production & Operations Management
- Oversee studio, field, and audio equipment, ensuring production readiness and technical reliability
- Manage reservations, checkout systems, and inventory tracking (using CRM tools such as Salesforce or similar)
- Supervise multi-camera studio productions, live switching, live streaming, and OTT delivery for BAVC Media or SF COMMONS productions
- Support broadcast operations, including signal flow, content ingestion, scheduling, and quality control
- Oversee post-production workflows, including editing, color correction, audio cleanup, captioning, and delivery formatting
- Oversight of tools and modern digital workflows to optimize efficiency
- Provide hands-on technical and production support as needed
Data Tracking, Reporting & Administrative Responsibilities
- Track program and production metrics, including producer participation, studio usage, and content outputs
- Prepare regular reports and deliverables for funders, including the Department of Technology, ensuring compliance with grant or contract requirements
- Maintain operational policies, workflows, and documentation for production and engagement programs
- Assist in budget planning, resource allocation, and equipment acquisition or upgrades
- Serve as a liaison between community producers, staff, leadership, and funders to balance operational, programmatic, and reporting needs
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience managing studio production, post-production, and live streaming/OTT workflows
- Strong background in community media, public media access, or participatory storytelling
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro required; After Effects, Audition, Media Encoder preferred)
- Familiarity with live switching systems (TriCaster), streaming platforms (OBS Studio), and broadcast/OTT workflows
- Supervisory experience overseeing staff and program participants
- Experience tracking program and production data using Salesforce, Google Docs, spreadsheets, or similar tools and preparing reports
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills
- Highly organized, strategic, and collaborative
- Committed to public service, community engagement, and inclusive storytelling
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience facilitating both technical and community media trainings or workshops
- Background in managing community media, public access television, or nonprofit storytelling programs
- Experience integrating technical operations with community engagement and producer development
- Familiarity with NDI, IP-based workflows, emerging technology, and media tools
- Experience with grant reporting, operational budgeting, or program evaluation for public media initiatives
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
This is a part-time position (flexible: 21-28 hrs p/w) in-person at BAVC Media in San Francisco, CA. Benefits include accrued sick and vacation time and participation in employee contributed 403(b) plan We also offer free registration in BAVC classes and workshops whenever schedule and availability permits.
Range: $33 p/h

- Evenings and weekends may be required to support related programming and will be communicated in advance.
- Some local travel may be required for offsite meetings and/or projects.
