BAVC Media welcomes 2015 ACLS public fellow Nilofar Gardezi

San Francisco, CA – Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC Media) is excited to welcome 2015 American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Public Fellow, Nilofar Gardezi. As Program Impact Analyst, Gardezi’s work will support all of BAVC Media’s initiatives. She will develop assessment and evaluation methodologies for BAVC Media’s programs and services and create a series of measurements to assess BAVC Media’s impact locally, regionally, and nationally.
Nilofar Gardezi is a highly skilled and experienced educator, researcher, and writer. For over a decade, she has worked as an educator at UC Berkeley, most recently as a Lecturer, teaching writing in a variety of educational contexts with diverse students. Her interdisciplinary doctoral research investigated neglected postwar African American literature and history and expanded the socio-historical view of black life in postwar New York City, Chicago, and Detroit. After earning her Ph.D. in English from UC Berkeley last May, Gardezi wrote for Oakland Local, a hyper-local, digital non-profit news source dedicated to showcasing lesser-known stories and voices.
“I am excited now to join the team at BAVC Media as Program Impact Analyst because this position combines my passion for supporting diverse storytelling along with my skills at research, analysis, and writing,” Gardezi said. “Working at BAVC Media is an exciting opportunity to support and encourage multiplatform storytelling at the largest media arts training company in the nation. I envision developing a systematic and organized method of evaluating BAVC Media’s various programs at key increments as I have done with my earlier programming work. My analysis and collaboration with BAVC Media Directors will help the organization grow and establish itself as a producer and creative partner in the field, generating a stronger narrative for itself and leading BAVC Media toward greater institution building.”

We are pleased to partner with ACLS on this innovative fellowship initiative, which offers recent humanities PhDs the opportunity to gain career-building experience in the nonprofit and government sectors. This year’s 22 ACLS Public Fellows will take up two-year assignments at a diverse set of organizations in the government and nonprofit sectors.
