BAVC was started by group of activists, artists, and filmmakers who wanted to create media that was socially-relevant and community-driven. Decades later, supporting the work of independent producers to is still central to our mission.

BAVC continues to provide training, resources, and opportunities for storytellers to empower themselves, whether its by making new connections at a panel discussion, starting a show on SF Commons public access television, or realizing a project as part of the National MediaMaker Fellowship.

  • National Mediamaker Program

    This year-long, cohort-based program provides in-kind training and project support for independent media artists from across the country.

  • Veterans Storytelling Project
    Digital Storytelling

    Our diverse programs teach nonprofits and individuals how dynamic storytelling processes can effect social change.

  • SF Commons

    SF Commons provides any current SF resident who wants to produce a show access to equipment and a studio, low-cost trainings and a time-slot on cable television.
