Through Riders: Riding Through Grief Across the Gobi Desert

After devastating personal losses, three women across three generations come together to ride across Mongolia on a four-month horseback journey across Mongolia and through the vast Gobi Desert, one of the most remote and unforgiving landscapes on Earth.

Through Riders follows their shared expedition as an act of survival, reflection, and connection. Moving on horseback through extreme terrain, the riders confront pain and grief not in isolation but in motion, discovering how landscape, animals, and deep friendship can hold space for trauma, death, and the search for meaning.

The film is co-created with the herder families who guide the journey across the steppe and desert. Their voices and lived experience are woven into the film, grounding the story in a truly collaborative process shaped by the communities at its heart.

What begins as a journey through personal loss evolves into something larger. Along the way, the women raise funds and awareness for the Veloo Foundation, supporting the development of a medical center and school for underserved communities in Mongolia. In doing so, their grief becomes a catalyst for collective care, transforming private heartbreak into tangible support for others in need.
