BAVC Media (Bay Area Video Coalition) has been a trusted community educator, collaborator, incubator, community builder, and resource for the media arts world since 1976. We provide access to media-making technology, hands-on training, workshops, mentorship, preservation services, broadcast opportunities, artist development support, and more to adults and youth.
Across BAVC Media’s programs, we advocate for those whose stories aren’t being told and provide the resources for anyone to create, share, and amplify their stories and those of their communities. Reel Stories is training the next generation of empowered filmmakers. Through collaborative, hands-on programs, we’re creating a pipeline of young women and gender expansive youth with the skills they need to enter the film and media industry and the confidence they need to succeed.
JOB SUMMARY
We seek an experienced part-time Youth Program Manager to play an important role in the design and implementation of our East Bay youth filmmaking program called Reel Stories. Working closely with the Program Director and Executive Director, this individual will oversee the successful completion of the Reel Stories’ program redesign and planning project, while also ensuring the successful launch and implementation of the program. They will project manage all tasks related to feedback collection, design, and marketing and outreach for the program, as well as provide hands-on operational support in delivering the Reel Stories program launching this summer, 2026.
This person will support programming that honors and embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion, with an intersectional lens, including but not limited to: BIPOC, LGBTQi+, low-income, female-identifying, nonbinary, and gender fluid young people. This is a part-time position, working an average of 20 hours per week in BAVC’s San Francisco office, or at Oakland Reel Stories sites, except during the summer (primarily June and July) when Reel Stories Camps will require full attendance from as early as 8am to 6pm Monday-Friday, as well as weekend film screenings, in Oakland.
This role follows a seasonal rhythm, with lighter hours during planning periods and significantly increased hours during summer camps (June–July), when full-time presence is required. Scheduling flexibility is built into the role across the year to accommodate this cycle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management
- Work closely with the Director of Youth Programs to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables for launching and executing successful Reel Stories camps and programs
- Project manage key aspects of the Reel Stories program redesign and launch, including feedback collection, planning, and coordination across teams
- Collaborate with the BAVC marketing team on the Reel Stories marketing and outreach strategy to meet enrollment targets for programs and camps.
- Collaborate with the Program Director, media education specialists, consultants, and instructors to update existing curriculum and develop new curriculum responsive to the evolving media landscape
- Define project timelines, milestones, and priorities, and ensure they are met
- Own and manage website content updates for the Reel Stories website as needed.
- Coordinate with key stakeholders (staff, instructors, vendors, consultants) to support progress toward shared goals and deliverables
- Document project goals, processes, and key decisions to support transparency and continuity across the team
- Monitor program progress, identify challenges or roadblocks, and work collaboratively with leadership to propose solutions or pivots as needed
- Support budget tracking and resource planning, and make recommendations to leadership regarding program needs and areas of growth
- Support the cultivation of a connected and supportive Reel Stories community, including students, alumni, staff, mentors, and partners
Program and Event Implementation & Support
- Ensure the updated Reel Stories program design is understood and internally communicated
- Work with the BAVC youth programming leadership team to implement the Reel Stories program and events.
- Manage the selection and onboarding process for Reel Stories instructors, vendors and volunteers
- Plan and manage the event location logistics for Reel Stories – identifying and renting spaces for camp and screenings, defining run-of-show and itineraries, and other related event activities
- Assist in recruiting industry guest speakers and mentors to work with Reel Stories.
- Manage the Reel Stories registration process and implement compliant data collection processes
- Assist in the grant writing, fundraising process, and grant reporting process.
- Assist in delivering presentations to community partners, funders, & staff (in video, audio, or written form) as needed.
- Some weekends and evenings are required, as needed.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
- Experience leading and managing complex projects, ideally related to youth education, community-based programs, or media-making
- Experience supervising others or supporting staff, teaching artists, or instructors
- Experience with event planning and execution
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with excellent organization and time management
- Experience communicating with young people and their parents/guardians
- Experience working with diverse youth and young people ages 12–25 and their families
- Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a supportive, participatory organizational culture (teamwork, flexibility, humor, energy, and care)
- Professional commitment to youth media and to removing barriers to access for young people
- Experience facilitating meetings, setting agendas, and keeping projects moving forward
- Comfort using everyday digital tools such as Google Docs, email, Zoom, and web-based platforms
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed
- Must pass a Live Scan background check and have a negative TB test
HELPFUL BUT NOT REQUIRED

- Experience facilitating teaching artist or instructor growth and professional development
- Experience leading youth programs specifically focused on media, filmmaking, or storytelling
- Experience assisting with grant writing, fundraising, or grant reporting
- Experience delivering presentations to community partners, funders, or internal teams
- Spanish-speaking or other second-language fluency
- Experience creating content for the web, such as blog posts or short video profiles
- Video production and post-production experience, including familiarity with a variety of camera formats
- Working knowledge of Premiere and Adobe Creative Suite; After Effects experience is a plus
- Familiarity with compression workflows, media storage, and asset management
- Experience using communication and project management tools such as Slack, Airtable, Mailchimp, Salesforce, Monday.com, Jotform, or similar platforms

- This role requires travel between two office sites within San Francisco and Oakland and local travel to additional class sites, field trips, and/ or meetings.
