Join an interdisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team at the SF Urban Film Fest. Work directly with Fay Darmawi, Executive Director, and in collaboration with other team members and external partners. The position allows for flexible work arrangements in a work culture of committed and passionate engagement.
Manage film based civic engagement productions with high social impact in collaboration with community-based partners, educational institutions, cultural organizations, governmental agencies and small businesses in San Francisco and Oakland (with possible limited travel to a few other cities in CA); plus other administrative duties as they arise.
Responsibilities (more detailed description of duties and schedule available upon request):
Annual Festival: Manage production of the annual week-long SF Urban Film Fest. The SFUFF events will be virtual, in-person, and hybrid depending on the public health directives.
Manage workflow and deliverables of the Programs Committee, Guest Curators, Festival Marketing Lead, Graphic Designer, and Social Media Coordinator.
Manage filmmaker and panelist relations.
Liaise with community partners.
Lead event production with SFUFF technical personnel and staff of various venues.
Support marketing team as needed.
“Sa Amin” Film Screenings: Produce impact campaign for the new “Sa Amin” documentary film in collaboration with the film team (director, editor and composer).
Produce in-person community based screening events.
Coordinate with educational and community partners in LA, Stockton, and Napa.
Submit to film festivals.
Distribute via public television platforms.
SF Outdoor Screenings: Produce outdoor screenings with team lead Kultivate Labs, funded by OEWD grant. Scope TBD.
Other TBD: Short term film series curation contracts with Bay Area cities and galleries, support ED with fundraising tracking, and contracts management as needed.
Min 3 years in project management in creative or a related field

Great to have experience in producing virtual, in-person, and hybrid film festival events.

Hours Vary Widely: Baseline is 40 hrs/week, with high variability based on time of year. During the peak planning and production period for the film festival, please be advised that work weeks can go upwards of 60 hours per week in the months of February and March (assuming the festival is in March). However, during the other months, hours are much less and sometimes dip below 20 hours per week during which time we actively encourage you to take it easy (with salary staying steady, see vacation policy for related topic).
Remote + Asynchronous: All SFUFF team members and volunteers work remotely. Most communication is conducted via Slack during production. For less urgent tasks, we use email.
Team + Workflow: There are currently only 2 full-time staff, the ED and PM. All other team members are contractors and volunteers. The work flow is both self-directed and also the ED assigned specific tasks to the PM. We encourage self-starters while the ED is more than available to support via Slack daily, and hour-long weekly check-ins.
In recognition of the high-pressure deadline driven nature of festival production, this position includes two (2) months of paid vacation, with the following limitations:
Vacation time can be used in 2 week increments or less, with one month lead time notification of the exact vacation dates communicated in writing to the Executive Director. This is needed because we are a super small staff.
None – our analysis found that individual health insurance is approximately financially equivalent to your portion of the premium of employer provided coverage. Because we are such a tiny staff, we can’t qualify for lower premiums yet.
