In this 2-hour class we’ll cover the visual elements and tools you’ll use to design your portfolio and create your own look and feel.

Your skills and talent are packaged on your website to present who you are and what you do to the world. In other words, this “package” is an important part of your brand; how you do it speaks volumes.

Topics covered in this class:

  • Web conventions: There are digital rules to follow when designing your portfolio. These conventions will help make your site user-friendly and help land that job.
  • Web 2.0 overview: It’s all about creating excellent and dynamic content, and sharing it. It’s the digital world we live in today.
  • Templates: Learn how to customize a template to add a bit of personal flair to your portfolio.
  • Flash vs. QuickTime: Adobe’s Flash and Apple’s QuickTime multimedia plugins are for your movies, videos, animations, sound and text.
  • Social video platforms: Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Snapchat and more. Use these important platforms to promote your work.
  • Banner Ads: These online ads are image-based, and an important form of advertising to promote your brand and attract employers.
  • Widgets: There are many easy-to-use applications that can perform additional functions on your website: menus, buttons, forms, video players, check boxes, and more.
  • App/SDK: We’ll look at examples and resources for software development kits (SDK) that can help you customize an app (application).
  • API: An application programming interface, or API, is a set of tools that can help you create software. We’ll review a few.
