Miriam Hillawi Abraham is an architectural designer who hails from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. As storytelling and fiction were integral aspects of her upbringing and culture, she often uses her designs as mediums for storytelling and speculating on elusive, corrupted pasts and projecting to alternative futures. Her work champions social justice through the lens of afrofuturism and intersectional feminism by creating playful dialogues, building artefacts from alternative realities and disrupting social norms. She completed an undergraduate degree in architecture at The Glasgow School of Art in 2016. Following her study, she went on to work at various art and architecture firms in Addis Ababa including Zana Landscaping and Zoma Contemporary Art Center. Currently she is an MFA design candidate at the California College of the Arts.
