Success Story: Ray

Ray dreamed of making movies.
He came to The Factory, BAVC’s after-school youth filmmaking program, and learned how to tell stories about social injustice. Ray’s documentaries, such as Inspire Yourself (at right), have screened at film festivals across the country and got him noticed by the San Francisco Chronicle and the University of Southern California, where he will be studying filmmaking with a full scholarship this fall.
“In one year, I see myself in a dorm room at USC editing a video. In five years, I’m working in the field with a camera in my hand, setting up shots.”
• "Best Documentary Award" at the Cineyouth Film Festival
• Winner of the 501c3: Capturing Change in America filmmaking competition
• "Audience Choice Award" of the Teen Truth Film Festival
• "Best Short Documentary" of the Larkspur Film Festival
