BAVC administers several in-kind grants and residency opportunities as a way to recognize and encourage innovative, independent artists producing video art, documentary and nontraditional narrative film, and new media projects utilizing emerging technologies. Mediamaker Awards
Annual in-kind postproduction and web development grants (valued at $8,000) toward the use of BAVC's state-of-the-art facilities.
Mediamaker Advance Awards
Annual in-kind grant for preservation of national audio or video collections (valued at $30,000). By nomination only.
Innovation Artist-in-Residence
This new program will provide an extended creative experience for two media artists per year. Artists-in-Residence will receive two months of technical mentorship in the BAVC Innovation Lab, and two months of access with technical and administrative support to develop a socially relevant media project utilizing emerging web or mobile technologies, new software tools, or social networking applications.
James D. Phelan Art Award in Video
Sponsored and administered by the San Francisco Foundation, this biennial award honors California-born artists whose body of work has made significant contributions to the field. Artists eligible by nomination only. For more information, go here.
