In late 2007, motivated by a host of growing functionality issues, and the desire to switch to a more efficient content management system, BAVC embarked on a project to re-design our website. With help from designers at Airbag Industries, and developers from CNP Integrations, BAVC was able to do a quiet launch of the site on July 1, 2008.
The site has a number of new features including user profiles which keep track of your class and event registrations, and social networking features which allow you to connect with other members of the BAVC community, blog to our community, post to our forums, submit links and resources, post jobs, and a host of other things.
I used to be a member and/or registered user on your old Forum. Do I need to sign up again?
Unfortunately, we were unable to transfer the old user names and passwords from our old site. So, everyone will have to register for the site again. Registration is free. If you are already a member, just choose the free option, and we will mark you as a member from the back end. Once you are registered for the site, a host of options will become available to you . . . including:
View your Profile / Check out the User Menu
When you log in the BAVC site, just click on any page, except the home page, to display your User Menu (it typically displays at the bottom of the right side menu). The User Menu includes links to your profile information, your password, and lots of BAVC social networking tools and community resources. Click on the + signs next to files to see more options. With the user menu, you can control your profile, connect with other users, download forms, and have quick links to resources.
Register for a class
To register for a class you must be a registered user and be logged into the site. To register, select your class, choose your section and then follow the form instructions. You will receive a confirmation email once your registration has been accepted. And you will be able to view your upcoming registrations on your user profile by clicking the My Events Tab.
Post a Paid Job
We post our paid jobs on the site in our "Connect" section
here:http://www.bavc.org/index.php?option=com_jobline&Itemid=1008
To post a paid job, you must be a registered user and be logged into the site. Once you are logged in, go to the Paid Jobs page, and look for the orange link "Post a Job." It sits just above the Display # box. Jobs are posted for 30 days. If you want to delete a paid job prior to the 30 day expiration, you must contact the web administrator.
Post to the Forums
To post to the Forums you must be a registered user and be logged into the site. Once you are logged in, go to the Forums page (located in our "Connect" section), and click on the Forum topic in which you want to post (for example, Unpaid Jobs). Then click on "New Thread" and follow the form instructions. You can follow your Forum posts in your profile and get notifications if replies are posted.
Post a Community Blog
Every registered user on the BAVC site can keep and post blogs on our site. Our community blogs show up in our "Connect Section" here:
http://www.bavc.org/index.php?option=com_myblog&Itemid=1093
To post a blog, just log into the BAVC site, navigate to the User Menu (typically it sits at the bottom of the right side menu of all pages except the home page). In the User Menu, choose the link for the MyBlog dashboard and follow the instructions from there.
Submit a link to our weblinks resource
Just sign in, go to the User Menu and click on "BAVC Resources," then click "Weblinks" and finally, "Submit a Link." Follow the form instructions. Once your link is approved, it will appear on the site. We prefer to post links that are non-profit and educational. But we will also post commercial sites if we think they benefit our community.
Things look funky (yes, this is a technical term). Why can't you fix it?
Our site is designed to be compatible with most major Internet browsers. Unfortunately, each browser interprets our site differently, and we are still working on creating CSS patches for "problem" browsers. Generally speaking, our site looks best in Firefox, and more recent versions of Internet Explorer and Safari. If you are working in Internet Explorer 5 or 6, or older versions of Safari, we recommend upgrading your browser if possible to get the best performance.
