Bay Unity Music Project (BUMP) Records is a music performance and
production program for Bay Area youth ages 14-19. With the help of
professional instructors, young people learn to compose music and
lyrics, DJ, and produce and record original music using
industry-standard technology.
BUMP producers also get hands-on
entrepreneurship training and experience in producing, branding and
promoting albums. Participants have use of music production software
and a professional-caliber rehearsal and recording space, free of
charge.
Since its founding in 2003, BUMP Records has become the
Bay Area’s leading production and performance program focused on urban
music, with participants representing twelve middle schools, high
schools and community centers, six albums produced to date, tracks
licensed to companies like Mercedes Benz and independent film
producers, and sales agreements with top online retailers iTunes,
eMusic, and Rhapsody.
BUMP Records is
prototyping BUMP Mobile – an “off-portal,” open-standards service
offering free audio downloads of BUMP music to mobile phones. We're currently testing it in our youth programs, and will make an announcement here when it's available to the public.
