ImageVIDEO PRESERVATION

As audio and video technologies have changed, and as old formats age and disintegrate, we are at risk of losing significant media collections that document the art, culture and history of our diverse communities. Partnering with the organizations that own these varied collections, BAVC works to preserve and digitize precious works of media art and other cultural artifacts. Since 1994, BAVC has preserved over 6,000 hours of audio and videotape.

ImageAUDIO PRESERVATION

In December 2004, BAVC added audio preservation to its services by preserving a significant portion of the audio collection of The Kitchen, an influential New York City-based, interdisciplinary arts organization. Of course, BAVC does more than simply save these works from permanent loss, we also digitize them, making them accessible to larger numbers of current and future audiences. I had worked with BAVC when I worked at Electronic Arts Intermix (1988-2000). I have always had excellent communication with staff members at BAVC. Equally, the trust of the field – knowing that so many of my peers were working with BAVC and trusting the quality of the work that was coming out of your facilities. There are very few options for media preservation and BAVC has always struck the right balance of being artist and non-profit friendly but always professional, reliable and relatively affordable.
