I've never been a fan of speaking in public. In my mind, my best
public speeches, like the best karaoke performances, are immediately
preceded by a bracing sip of whiskey, or at least a few swills of red
wine. So imagine my dismay when I was asked to lead a fundraising
workshop for the BUMP Beats Teacher Training program this past June. Not
only was the workshop scheduled during the cocktail-unfriendly workday,
but my audience was comprised of teachers, which, excepting military
juntas and federal agents, is potentially the most intimidating crowd to
address.
"Safeties are the last line of defense, and are thus expected to be sure tacklers. The free safety tends to keep some distance from the line of scrimmage, watch the play unfold, and follow the ball... Free safeties occasionally blitz as well" --Wikipedia, "Safety (American football position)."
Much like the mighty free safety*, Operations Manager Jenn Olivia unequivocally holds the BAVC team together and defends us against enemy plays. We sat her down for the WHAT I DO interview to hear about the good, the bad, and the HVAC.
The BAVC Board of Directors holds periodic and scheduled meetings in connection with its responsibility to oversee all BAVC operations. The BAVC Board conducts meetings in person, over the telephone and online. Twice a year, the BAVC Board invites the public to attend and participate in meetings related to SF Commons. These BAVC Board meetings are designated as "Public Meetings." For Public Meetings held in person, members of the public are invited to attend in person at the announced meeting location. For Public Meetings held via telephone or online, members of the public may access the meeting in real time by dialing into the designated conference call service or accessing the online meeting service provider.
In the new WHAT I DO interview series, we sideline BAVC Digital Pathways Audio Instructor Chris Runde.
Chris is a quiet storm. When not teaching digital audio to youth during the school year, he brings a dignified élan to the office every single day. We decided to sit him down for a heart-to-heart G-Chat about what makes him tick. Turns out, it can be found in the Whole Foods deli case.
