BAVC began more than 30 years ago, fueled by a spirit of experimentation, innovation and community building. Over the years, that spirit has helped us cultivate a multi-generational mix of experimental video artists, media professionals, community activists, educators and others working together to create a dynamic community of media artists.

In February 2008, BAVC introduced a new exhibition series -- ROHSTOFF [raw material] -- that expands our long-standing commitment to the “ART” in mediaArt.

Opening Panel of Producers Institute 5/31

Please join us Saturday, May 31st at the Plenary Panel discussion of the 2008 Producers Institute of New Media Technologies presented by BAVC.

SOURCING THE FUTURE: MARKETING AND SUSTAINABILITY FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE MEDIA ONLINE

This panel discussion will unpack how documentary, advocacy, art, and entertainment fit together, how producers can catalyze and scale participation in dynamic, interactive sites that integrate with and support their long-form public media projects, and the kind of partnerships and collaborations that must be made to support this work. What is the lifespan of public media online? How do we help funders seed and sustain these projects? What should we be doing now to insure the legacy and impact of digital media and video art for the public good? In a time when audiences are supporting documentaries more than ever before, can Darfur is Dying capture the market share of Grand Theft Auto?

Moderated by B. Ruby Rich.

And featuring panelists: Megan Cunningham, CEO Magnet Media; Jim Sommers, VP Broadcast & Communications ITVS; Jackie Glover, VP Documentary Programming, HBO; Mark Taylor, President, New American Vision; Steve Beckman, Cinetic Media; Rahdi Taylor, Sundance Documentary Institute; Evan Messinger, former VP Business Development CNN.

Space is limited. Please RSVP HERE.

The Producers Institute for New Media Technologies connects independent producers and their socially relevant content to emerging models of storytelling and distribution. Through the Institute, documentary production teams from across the US and South America spend ten days at BAVC working with technologists, designers, and programmers to develop new models of participatory media. Mentors from leading technology companies, including Apple, Adobe, Google, MobiTV, Current TV, and others, work with teams to design and develop working prototypes, which are then presented to funding and review panels at the end of the Institute.
