April 12th was an exciting day of firsts at BUMP Records! For a long time it has been a goal of ours to be able to record live drums, but previous facilities and equipment prevented us from doing so. With our current facility and access to equipment, we were able to achieve that goal.

17 year-old BUMP artist Apollo Carter blew us away with his audition for Youth Uprising's Got Talent on Tuesday. Apollo says his father visited him in a dream to give him the melody.

Spoiler alert: he made the cut. #kidsthesedays

In Memory of Alex Morris (1992-2012)

We are saddened to announce the unfortunate passing of Alex Morris. Alex graduated from BUMP Records in 2010 and continued to make music under the name Rhymescheme. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family. He will be greatly missed.

Inside the Summer Reign Vol. 3 Album Release Party

Last Saturday night, BUMP Records celebrated the release of Summer Reign Volume 3 with a free show in Oakland. BUMP Records artists 3SS3NS, Anais Azul, Bhindi G, Queen Nefertiti, Spaced and Teka rocked the mic at Pro Arts Gallery in Frank Ogawa Plaza for a packed crowd. BUMP instructor Ian Davis handled the beats, Lanesplitter provided the pizza and beverages were courtesy of Izze. It was a great experience watching the BUMP artists take the stage and perform brand new tracks for a live audience.

Davin A. Thompson (aka Do D.A.T.) worked at BAVC for nearly 9 years before his exit earlier this month.  In that time he mentored some of the best young hip hop artists in the Bay Area, all while pumping out his own musical gems.  I got to ask him about his upcoming projects and what makes dude tick!

BUMP + Mark Bradford at SFMOMA

Last Thursday at SFMOMA, BUMP Records performed in response to the opening of Mark Bradford's mid-career retrospective and new album Pinocchio Is On Fire. Simultaneously broadcast live on SF Commons, BUMP artists Kovu/SHAD (Abbas Khalid), Teka Miranda, Moria Moore and Queen Shabazz performed a thoughtful, impressive set of songs to a packed crowd in the SFMOMA atrium.

BUMP Records is proud to present the new compilation album, History in These Streets. BUMP recording artists and filmmakers from its sibling program, The Factory, had an opportunity to take the Black Panther Legacy Tour with David Hilliard. It was during this tour that both programs were inspired to create new films and music.
